Location: Boise, Idaho
Reports To: Board of Directors
Job Summary: The Executive Director of Idaho Diabetes Youth Programs is responsible for carrying out the mission of delivering camp and community programs for children, teens, and young adults with type 1 diabetes in our service area. The Executive Director oversees all programs, operations, finance, communications, and staff. In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director sets the organization’s strategic direction and raises the necessary funds to carry out the mission.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the current strategic plan and develop and carry out annual goals dictated by the strategic plan
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors on the recruitment and orientation of new board members
- Hire, train, and supervise office staff
- Evaluate staff performance and support professional development
- Responsible for oversight of staff responsible for compliance with ACA standards and maintenance of accreditation; compliance with good accounting principles including maintenance of financial records and proper recordkeeping needed to secure annual audits and file required tax returns
- Develop annual budget for Board of Directors approval
- Administer funds of the organization according to the approved budget, grant agreements, and contracts
- Provide program, fundraising, and financial reports to the Board of Directors as requested
- Maintain relationships with the organization’s banking institutions
- Communicate with the Volunteer Marketing Director on any brand development or marketing needs
- Collaborate with the Chair of the Board of Directors to set the board meeting agenda
- Attend all board meetings and board committee meetings as needed, including Executive Committee meetings
- Lead office staff meetings
- Develop and design long-term fundraising strategies for the organization
- Design annual development plans to guide and prioritize fundraising efforts
- Oversee the financial management and fund development operations to allow for adequate annual funding and to meet long-term goals
- Develop and steward relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations, and other institutional donors to secure funds or in-kind contributions
- Seek out and complete funding proposals along with necessary grant reports
- Manage relationships with corporations, service clubs, and others providing volunteers for days-of-service or pro bono projects
- Plan and execute fundraising events or oversee staff, volunteers, or contractors
- Function as the communication liaison to donors to strengthen relationships with donors
Here’s What You’ll Need
- Understanding and appreciation of the mission of Idaho Diabetes Youth Programs, and values of children and youth programming
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership abilities typically gained through 5+ years progressive management or supervisor experience
- Demonstrated success in communicating and meeting with high-level and diverse stakeholders
- Must be willing and open to working in an inclusive environment that embraces diversity
- Excellent networking and negotiation skills
- Ability to create and make management-level fundraising presentations
- Solid understanding of non-profit budget, accounting systems, and financial statements
- Ability and desire to lead fundraising efforts
- Proven ability to apply critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to achieve results
- Work in an enthusiastic, dynamic, organized, and collaborative fashion
- Take initiative, can multi-task and work independently but collaboratively to meet deadlines and achieve desired outcomes
- Experience using Adobe and the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Project, Teams, and PowerPoint
- Comfortable with motor travel to regional camps and events and with air travel to domestic and international conferences and meetings
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends especially during the camping season
- Must have vehicle and cell phone for use while working
- Ability to pass a background check and maintain a driver’s license
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
- Previous experience leading volunteers
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, management, or related field
- 5+ years of non-profit management experience in an operational environment
- Previous grant writing experience
- Knowledge of and connection to type 1 diabetes
- Love of Idaho’s great outdoors
